DayWaveDayWave is a perpetual calendar, (a calendar valid for many years, designed to allow the calculation of the day of the week for a given date in the future). The form is inspired by wooden maze games like labyrinth and colorful bead rollercoaster wire games used to entertain children. The result is a playful wall calendar that requires daily interaction to track the date. The experience is meant to provide the user with nostalgic ammunition against the fleeting feeling calendars often impart.
The project was started as an interest in solving a puzzle. I wanted to see how I would approach the design problem that a perpetual calendar provides. I focused on exploring numerous systems and conceptual motifs which resulted in a playful form that still allows for practical use provide and keep track of any date. Designed in collaboration with Andrew Chun, Moon Jung Jang, Joel Kern, Yeilha Vargas and Nicole Wasson.
